ARGENTINIAN MALBEC: panel tasting results

Decanter magazine is generally regarded as the finest wine publication in the world.  Recently, a three person panel (including one Master of Wine)  held a comprehensive Argentinian Malbec tasting and the results were impressive.  One wine in particular is flat out fantastic and a tremendous value.  It is the 2012 Antucura Malbec from Vista Flores area, 1050 meters above sea level in the Uco Valley.  In the beginning in 1998, Antucura offered wines of great strength and ripeness, focused on the influence of new wood.  Since 2010, it has moved in style towards fresher, more drinkable wines.  And how did the 2012 Antucura Malbec fair?

95

95 points and rated as the second best Malbec in the world by the tasting panel. This is what the members of the panel said about the wine.

Jo Ahearne (Master of Wine):  "A wonderful velvet texture with great purity.  Dense bramble fruit with hints of violets.  Good length and lovely juiciness, and with a firm, fine tannic

                                                            structure."

Phil Crozier:  "Very expressive with lovely floral notes of roses, plus black pepper.  Lovely mouthfeel and purity.  The purest of Malbec expression."

Patricio Tapia:  "Nice, pure expression of Malbec.  Clean fruit, violets and strawberries.  A great wine to understand Malbec in general and Vista Flores in particular.  Pure and

                               drinkable."

We were fortunate enough to taste this wine this past month and the wine is truly stunning and will be very quick to sell out, that's the good news.  The bad news, ONLY 30 CASES AVAILABLE, again, it will sell out VERY quickly.  Interestingly enough the wine voted best in this tasting was a single vineyard Malbec that scored 96 points with only a few hundred cases available worldwide and it sells for $60.00 a bottle.

What will our price be for the 95/100 rated 2012 Antucura Malbec?

$15.95

Again, I can't emphasize enough how quickly this wine will sell out so please call or email us immediately to reserve a case, MOST LIKELY two!
